St Mary's Church

The Friends

of the

Eversden Churches

of

St Mary and St Helen

The Association was formed in 2001 as a charity devoted to raising money to restore and protect the fabric of the churches.
Most families in the villages are Friends and are invited to contribute at least £5 per year to the cause. 2004 was a very good year for the Friends. The target of £2500 was overtaken by December following an excellent Wine-tasting and Ploughman's Supper. Some generous donations swelled the fund.
The Friends have already earmarked  £5000  for work on the tower of St Helen's. Other projects are proposed in co-operation with the architects and the Parochial Church Council. While the task of satisfying all the agencies involved is long and complicated, progress is being made.   The Friends have a new Chairman as from September 2006 and are reviewing their role in the community. Robert Lloyd Parry's Nunkie Theatre production, A Pleasing Terror, raised £1000 in October 2006.

Back to Our Churches

With a daunting (estimated) £750,000 needed for work on the two churches, the PCC is exploring all avenues - grants, bequests, and Trusts. Local fund-raising, however, remains an important element in the campaign. The Friends give everyone the opportunity to play a part - and to enjoy memorable village events. Village support does make a difference.
