Burglaries alert 3rd July 2007

As a newly formed panel, we would like to make you aware of the multiple burglaries which took place in Haslingfield on 1st July. In total there were seven burglaries which consisted of dwelling and shed/garage burglaries. In light of this, we would like you to consider your home and ask yourselves the question, ‘How secure is my home??’ Why not begin by looking at your home through the eyes of a burglar and see what weaknesses your home displays and consider what improvements can be made. Most burglaries are committed by opportunist thieves and can be prevented by taking some simple precautions. We have included some home security information which you may find useful;

·       1 in 5 burglaries occur because windows and doors are left open! Make sure you lock you’re your windows and doors.

·       Fit good quality deadlocks to all exterior doors.

·       Fit window locks and restrictors, especially on ground floor windows.

·       Consider installing a burglar alarm and set it when going out or to bed.

·       Ensure your house appears occupied. Cheap timers are available to fit most lamps.

·       Ensure your house and car keys cannot be accessed from the letterbox or any window. Ideally put them out of sight.

·       Make sure you confirm the identity of any person you are letting into your home. Bogus officials account for many burglaries.

Please consider the above advice and reduce the risk of your home being burgled. Let’s not give thieves an easy ride, let’s make it as difficult for them as possible.  For free and confidential advice on any aspect of security, please contact your local officers or look up Crime Reduction advice on our website www.cambs.police.uk

On a final note, the first Gamlingay Neighbourhood Panel Meeting will take place on Wednesday 25th July 2007 at Gamlingay Village College in the school hall. Doors will open from 7.00pm. This is your opportunity to have your say and directly influence the policing priorities in your area. Your local officers will also be present.

Many thanks
